This is the 2nd time we have had issues with removing a gobo or color wheel shaft fitting from a stepper motor.
Gear pullers are not tall enough to fit on the shaft fitting. Hammering with a wedge did not work. Finally, we got out the propane torch. The shaft fitting is aluminum, and the shaft is steel, so the coefficient of expansion between the two metals should be in our favor. Add the torch, and in a few minutes the shaft fitting was off. But it took much more heat than expected. And of course the old stepper motor was toast – but then again, we would not be replacing it if it wasn’t already bad.
What light were we reparing? An old Roboscan of course!
