Yamaha VL70m Discontinued

We have confirmed that the Yamaha VL70m synth module has been discontinued, with no stated replacement.  Not only does this seemingly close the chapter on VL modeling (virtual math modeling of voices/instruments), but also drops out an important wind synth friendly hardware synth.  While I had my serious quibbles with this synth, such as glitches causing tuing to change during gigis, medocre factory voices (I installed the Windlist PROM), and early models with groundloop hum, I did like the WX connector port being right on the front panel for direct WX connection.

But I don’t mind the march of technology.  After all, I’m still using my vintage VL1m and Roland JV1010 synths every week!

In future posts, we will explore alternatives that are in production.
